Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search Engine optimisation (SEO), is the process of improving the visibility of a selected item of content or assets within search engine results pages such as google results pages. It should be noted, these pages are often called SERPs. SEO involves techniques, on page (seen by the user), and off page (seen by robots), which are designed to help search engines “show” or index data to users.

The Idea here is to;

  1. Help Search engines to display desired and favourable content to users.
  2. Maximise the benefit of the desired outcome.
    1. Lead Generation
    2. More Traffic
    3. Calls To A Business
    4. Increase sales
without a doubt, there are many techniques and many very technical aspects to SEO. Depending on what you want to achieve the techniques may vary slightly, but don’t worry we will save the advanced stuff for YouTube Tutorials and Blog posts.

Understanding Your Target Audience And Customers

It is very important to understand that customers and target audience isn’t always the same people. (I know how ridiculous that sounds). Yes, customers are awesome and without them, how can any business function? Especially when it comes to SEO, one of the biggest ranking factors is website or brand engagement, and often people that will engage with you aren’t going to buy from you. What does this mean? It means that some content should be created for engagement purposes, (most in fact), and some content should be aimed at driving sales.

So what is the application of the above statement?

Consider what’s known as a buying cycle which consists of thee stages.

  1. Awareness: A customer becomes area of a problem and starts searching for keywords such as “tooth ache” where they will start to research their problem.
  2. Consideration: This is when the customer has done some research on a particular problem and will begin to search for more specific keywords such as “Root canal treatment”. During this stage often customers will start to see business websites offering the “consideration keywords” as services.
  3. Purchase: By this stage often the customer has done their shopping around and is ready to buy from a vender they have already determined.

Obviously it is important to remember that customers can be targeted at any and all stages of the buying cycle. Furthermore engagement generation techniques should be used to boost your site to the top of SERPs specific and broad keywords.

Update Content Regularly

There is more then one benefit to regularly updating your websites content. Additionally, regular updates to your website content gives your traffic a little “boost” and will help with the overall growth of your online assets as a whole. Also having someone log into the back end of your website is a good opportunity to take a look at everything and make sure it’s all still running as intended. From time to time specific sections of your website may automatically update which can cause issues with how the different sections communicate with each other.

Meta Description

As for Meta Description this is the term given to the section in SERPs as shown by the image on the top of this section.

It is important that this Snippet of information is optimised for what I call “clickability”.

The Image below the first in this section shows what is known as a rich snippet where additional data has been added to the meta description area.

This is most commonly done through the use of a tool called Schema Markup.
